China’s Best Ads of 2013

Advertising@chinaSMACK is always on the lookout for great content and with 2013 coming to an end; we would like to share Thoughtful China’s recent video. The good folks over at Thoughtful China sat down with some of the most well-known names in China’s advertising industry and asked each guest to bring in their favorite ads of 2013. The three guests shared their ads and explained why they thought the ad should be considered the best ad of 2013.

The three guests included Graham Fink, Chief Creative Officer of Ogilvy & Mather China; Lo Sheung Yan “Mayan Lo“, Chairman of JWT’s Asia Pacific Creative Council; and Andrew Lok, founder of the independent agency Civilization.

Graham Fink is the Chief Creative Officer of Ogilvy & Mather China. Graham has been in the industry since the early 80’s and according to Thoughtful China, “Graham has created some of advertising’s most memorable campaigns for brands like Benson & Hedges, Silk Cut, LandRover, Red Rock Cider, Holsten Pils, Hamlet Cigars, Ariston and British Airway, including the airlines famous “Face” ad with 6,000 extras that was directed by Oscar-winning director Hugh Hudson. The commercial is considered to be one of the 100 greatest ads”.

Lo Sheung Yan “Mayan Lo” is the Chairman of JWT’s Asia Pacific Creative Council. He has been in the industry for over 15 years and he has helped JWT win numerous awards including AdFest’s “Network Agency of the Year” in 2008 and 2009, Spikes Asia’s “Network Agency of the Year” in 2009, and AdFest’s “Agency of the Year” in 2009.

Andrew Lok is the founder of the independent agency Civilization. He has many years of experience working for well-known ad agencies including BBDO and Ogilvy but after many years he decided that he could do it better and stated his own agency.

The video is a little long but worth the watch. The guests talk about copying others ideas, creativity in China, being authentic, and other issues facing the advertising industry in China.
