Chevy have set up an interesting outdoor activation on one of Shanghai’s most popular shopping streets, leveraging on their link with the hugely popular Transformer movie franchise.
The key feature of the setup, and the thing that is stopping people on the street, is an augmented reality Transformer robot which passersby can interact with.
Passersby stand on a spot marked out on the floor and by following movement prompts displayed on a large screen, can interact with a Transformer robot. Users play games with the robot, like shooting down UFOs, and fight with the Transformer by kicking it.
The transformer also interacts with the user by zapping them or holding an umbrella over their head.
Once the user has gone through the set number of movement prompts, the Transformer and user strike a pose which is then captured on camera. A large QR code pops up on the screen, and when scanned gives you the picture which can then be shared.
Overall a fun, well executed idea that, from what we saw, is stopping and engaging a lot of people.
